A Note About Primaries and Party Unity

My Fellow Marion County Republicans:
Now that the election is over, I would like to review some exciting and positive things about the Republican Primary we just held.
For the first time in years, we had multiple, locally contested elections. This shows that we are having vibrant local elections.
All of the contested elections were Republicans. No Democrats filed for any of the local offices. This means we are keeping things RED.
We smashed through early voter turnout in both 2022, as well as 2024 Republican Primaries.
Our overall voter turnout for the 2026 Republican Primary was higher than the Republican Primary in 2024; a Presidential Election Year.
The voting was so heavy, that extra voting machines had to be brought to places like the Lone Oak polling station.
What this all translates to is that you, the Marion County Republican voters, are excited to get out and vote! You are seeing that your vote and your voice matters!
While we still have a few runoff contests coming up in a couple of months, the majority of contests are over. We will be having runoff elections on May 26, 2026 with Early Voting for the Runoff starting May 18 - May 22.
A Time For Unity
With the primary election over, now is the time that we come together and support our Republican nominees. This is the way that Republicans have always operated, and it is important that we all remind ourselves of that. At the end of the day, we all agree more than we disagree on politics as Republicans.
Ronald Reagan famously stated:
“If you and I agree 80% of the time, and only disagree 20%, you are an 80% friend, not a 20% enemy.”
Road to Convention
Next up are Precinct and County Conventions. This is where we start the process of crafting platform planks that may eventually lead to legislation being passed, and updates/changes to our Republican Party of Texas Rules. To become a delegate to the State Convention, you must have voted in the Republican Primary, or sign an oath of affiliation. The first step though is attending Precinct and County Conventions.
The date of the Convention is March 28, 2026 starting at 9am. Location: Mims Community Center 12728 FM729, Avinger, TX 75630. We invite all Marion County Republicans to attend and participate. Even if you have never attended a local Precinct or County Convention, you will learn a lot about party operations. The State Convention this year will be in Houston, Texas June 11-13. More details to come.
Precinct Chairs Make It Happen
Finally, I would like to say THANK YOU to our Precinct Chairs that have been serving this party for the last two years. Their contributions have helped make this Republican Primary run smooth, they have helped to modernize party operations, and are active in keeping voters informed on the issues, elections, etc.
I am excited about these next few weeks and months, as well as for the new term coming up soon.
In Service to Marion County Republicans,
Hunter Bonner
Chairman, Marion County Republican Party
